Home care

Home care is provided to citizens who are in need of personal assistance, care or support with the goal of preventing illness, stimulating the mental and physical health and well-being of the citizen, redeveloping lost skills, stimulating the individual's ability to take care of themselves and providing care and attention.

Home care is provided as follows:

  • Acute home care may be provided for a shorter period of time when relatives are indisposed due to illness, pregnancy, or recovery.
  • Home care can be provided for an unlimited period of time to senior citizens who need help or care due to a chronic illness or disability.
  • Home care may be provided temporarily for a shorter period of time due to acute illness or disability.

Home help under Sections 1 and 3 will be provided free of charge, while home help provided according to section 2 will be paid in proportion to income per hour. The fee is set out in announcement no. 126 of Dec. 17. 2014 on Home Services and Payment for Home Services, Care for the Elderly, etc. The announcement can be seen here.

The decision to provide assistance will be made based on a professional assessment in which NBH staff will make a home visit. The assessment takes into account the capacity and needs of the citizen and the resources of the private network.
