Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy Unit

NBH provides occupational therapy and physiotherapy to senior citizens in the Northern Islands when needed. The service aims to stimulate physically, mentally and socially, so that the citizen can live in his or her own home, be active in his or her own life and in the community for as long as possible.

The mission statement of the Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy Unit of NBH is as follows:

  • Support the maintenance, regain, or redevelopment of the citizen's functional capacity so that he is as productive and self-sufficient as possible.
  • Support good health status and contribute to the prevention of a decline in the citizen's mobility status.

Decisions on the provision of occupational therapy and/or physiotherapy will be made based on a professional assessment.

The service
The service includes occupational therapy and physical therapy, home visits with regard to possible assistive devices and housing reform, guidance and counseling, visitation, rehabilitation, attachment training, preventive training etc., for senior citizens living at home, as well as people living in NBH's housing units who need, wish for, and can actively participate in training.

The Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Unit of NBH is housed in “Ven og Virka” at Kjalarvegur 48.

The head of department is physiotherapist Hedevig Matras. The leading occupational therapist is Sóley Sjúrðaberg.
